Dog! I Feel Like A Tubby!

I know I haven't blogged in a while and probably have lost a few followers but everyone that I meet up with always asks me when am I going to blog again. Well today I just got back from a hot dog place out here in Calgary called Tubby Dogs.

Tubby Dogs
1022 17 Ave SW
Calgary, AB T2T0A5
(403) 244-0694

This is a cool retro diner with retro decor. There are a ton of old cereal boxes, toys, etc from the 80's.  As an 80's child, how could you not enjoy it! and with 80's decor, you have hipsters (see above pic) hanging out there. Check out this framed puzzle! (This really shows my age)

Now onto the real stuff, the food. Its a place that makes hot dogs in all different ways. They even have monthly specials but I'll let the menu do the talking for their regular items.

With all of these different types of dogs available, it was tough to choose which to try out but in the end I had to give the Sherm's Ultimate Gripper a shot. Let me start by giving you a run down of what this dog has...

Sherm's Ultimate Gripper
Hot dog wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Topped with ham, chilli, cheese, mustard, real bacon bits (like there isn't already enough), hot peppers, mushrooms, sauteed onions, a fried egg and cheese sauce..... Yeah I know, I'm a tubby but I had to try it.

How was it? I thought it would be too much flavor crammed into one package but it isn't. It is too much to get in one bite though....AND in terms of cleanliness, its just a big bag of mess. If you've had California Sandwiches, you know mess.  This is way more messy than California's.

I give it a 4 of 5 chopsticks.

Its a bit too much for and way too messy but very good.

Next, my coworker decided he wanted to try the PBJ hot dog which is a hot dog with peanut butter, jelly and topped with captain crunch cereal. Sounds disgusting right? yeah I thought so too.  I'm not a fan of jelly so I got my half without jelly.

Still looks disgusting right? Its actually really good... I know, I can't convince you so you'll just have to try it on your own. I'm not usually one to mix things like this but wow was this ever good.

So good and so surprised that I had to give it a 5 of 5 chopsticks

You'll just have to give it a try on your own!

Price: under $20
Parking: Street parking
Service: approx 5-10 mins
Menu: Hot dogs, sides
Ambiance: 80's diner feel

I know most of you readers won't be able to make it out to Calgary but there isn't anything too crazy about these hot dogs that you can't attempt to make at home. Give it a go!

Until next time…..
